The military has many different allowances that it pays to its personnel. When marines move their household, they are paid part reimbursement of expense incurred. If any involuntary separation from the military occurs, after six and before 20 years of service, payment is also made for that. When persons are assigned hardship duties abroad, they are paid hardship duty pay. These are all components of Military Pay.

Marines, who are stationed in areas like Iraq at this time, would receive a combat zone pay, a clothing allowance for uniforms, family separation allowance and also a tax advantage, as part of their Military Pay. Flight pay, submarine duty pay and sea pay are also paid to Marines when applicable.

Prior Service persons can join the navy reserve as veterans and usually obtain the same rank and rating enjoyed while on active duty. Also Prior Service personnel do not need any basic training in order join the navy reserve.
