Some internet sites urge you to ‘Go Army’ and forget the navy and so on. Each of the military services of course has its points, whether it is the Airforce, the Marines, the Coastguard or even part time duty as in the navy reserve.

If you choose to Go Army; i.e. go the army way there are lots of alternatives before you. A Job Search for officers’ positions in the army will show all kinds of options; administrative or managerial, combat, aviation, legal, medical, human services, intelligence and law enforcement, transportation etc. A Job Search for enlistment will also give you many options. You could choose to ‘Go Army’ with or without Prior Service. It is to be remembered that though the army welcome Prior Service personnel back into the military fold, there is a preference for personnel who are currently in service to reenlist. Those with prior experience may have to wait up to one year to rejoin.

The Navy exchange is a system of retail outlets and navy lodges that offer goods and services to authorized customers. The exchange also runs the uniform program for military personnel. The aim of the Navy exchange aims to fund and support quality-of-life programs for military personnel both currently serving and retired, military reserves and their families. It is a profit making organization that does not depend upon funding out of taxpayers money. There is also a Coastguard exchange, which, in conjunction with the naval exchange brings out a mail order catalogue.

Military Pay for Airforce personnel, apart from the base pay and usual food and housing allowances, also has provisions for extra allowances for aviators and personnel who serve in combat zones or on special missions. Military Pay for Marines also has extra allowances such as sea allowance, submarine allowance and other combat zone and separation pay. There are also comprehensive medical and insurance benefits. Navy reserve personnel are paid for the amount of time they serve, a usual of two days a month and two weeks a year as well as for any additional days that the individual chooses to serve.
