For a Prior Service person to reenlist in the navy reserve or
the Airforce, the applicant should have sufficient, documented,
creditable Prior Service. This is for retirement purposes to enable
him or her to accrue 20 years of service prior to reaching age
60. There is no basic training required and the term of enlistment
can be for a period of one, three, four or six years. For persons
not having Prior Service, and wanting to enlist in the navy reserve,
they should be a high school senior, high school graduate or have
a GED.
Unlike the Airforce, the Navy exchange, in addition to its retail
outlets has a mail order catalog, which is sponsored jointly by
the AAFES, MCX and the coast guard exchange system. Shopping from
the Navy exchange can also be done online and orders so placed
can be kept track of.
When members of the Marines have dependants, they are paid a
family separation allowance. This is part of Military Pay which
is paid to the member when away from dependants for longer than
30 days on military orders. Military Pay also has a combat pay
component. When Marines are assigned or deployed in combat zones
they receive combat pay and also certain tax advantages.
